Salman Khan on Tubelight

Every year on the festive period of Eid, Salman Khan‘s movies rake in the maximum collection and turn into a blockbuster. So, one would have expected the same to happen this year too, but sadly, his recent Eid release ‘Tubelight’ surprised us with its low numbers. The movie, which was expected to collect on the lines of his previous movies like ‘Sultan’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ did not meet the expectations and the numbers that are coming in are downright disappointing. ‘Tubelight’ is touted as one of the lowest grossers amongst his movies.

However, according to a friend of Salman, the actor was well aware that the movie would not turn out to be a box office success. His friend revealed to a web portal, “He wasn’t too keen on doing this film with Kabir. There was another script that Kabir had wanted to do with Salman. But Salman felt it required too much physical effort to go into the other project. So he picked this one just because it was physically less strenuous than ‘Sultan’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’.” (Also Read: Second weekend collection of Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’ is negligible!)

There are also reports of how Salman was keen to do a character of an innocent man. Said a source, “Salman wanted to build on the image of the innocent do-gooder, who helps bring people together. That image really worked for him in ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.”

So, after looking at the box office numbers, one can only assume that the audiences want romance and action from their hero and not an innocent do-gooder kind of a role.
