Aamir Khan recently shared his thoughts on his highly anticipated and ambitious project, Mahabharata, emphasising that it is a significant responsibility and that he is committed to getting it right. He expressed his desire to create a version that makes all Indians feel truly proud. The actor’s long-standing dream of bringing the epic to the big screen has been a topic of speculation for years, with fans eagerly awaiting concrete updates. Now, Aamir has candidly discussed the project, which could potentially be his last, explaining why it has taken so much time to materialize.
Aamir Khan Calls Mahabharata A Huge Responsibility
In an interview with News18, Aamir Khan described Mahabharata as more than just a film—it’s a monumental responsibility. He said, “That’s my dream, and I hope it becomes a reality one day. I’d love the opportunity to do it, but it’s a huge responsibility. Indians are deeply connected to this story; it’s in our blood. I don’t think there’s any Indian who hasn’t read the Bhagavad Gita or at least heard about it from their grandmother. Making a film that’s so fundamental to all Indians is a big responsibility.”
He further added, “I often say, ‘You can let down Mahabharata, but Mahabharata will never let you down.’ If you do a poor job, you’ll let it down. I want to ensure that if I ever make this film, it’s done in a way that fills every Indian with pride.”
Aamir Discusses Mahabharata’s Global Potential
Aamir also discussed the global potential of the Mahabharata. He compared it to some of the biggest Hollywood franchises like Lord of the Rings and Avatar, given its unmatched depth and scale. “Over the years, we’ve seen Hollywood blockbusters that are big entertainers. But Mahabharata is the mother of all stories. If we do it right, I think Indians will be incredibly proud. I’m taking my time because I want to make sure I get it right,” the 3 Idiots star concluded.
Aamir’s Upcoming Projects
Meanwhile, speculation last month suggested Aamir might begin work on a sequel to 3 Idiots (2009). However, he clarified that he has not been approached for it. The Phalke biopic is set to be his next project. Khan was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, which also starred Genelia Deshmukh. Next, Aamir is producing Lahore 1947, featuring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Ali Fazal. Another lineup is Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, both under his banner Aamir Khan Productions.
