Aanand L Rai REACTS To Rs 84 Cr Lawsuit On Presenting Tere Ishk Mein As Raanjhanaa's Sequel

Aanand L Rai has responded to the Rs 84 crore lawsuit filed by Eros International over his film Tere Ishk Mein, asserting that such disputes are common in the film industry. The filmmaker, who has been named in a commercial intellectual property case by Eros, addressed the controversy, stating that legal conflicts are an inevitable part of doing business in cinema.

Aanand L Rai REACTS To Rs 84 Cr Tere Ishk Mein Lawsuit

In an interview with NDTV, Rai said, “These are part of life. When you step into business, such things keep happening. I don’t even know why, how, or from where this has come. But I think it is a legal matter, so let the legal people handle it. There is a lawyer on their side, and a lawyer from here will respond too.”

He further added, “I don’t think it has any meaning. Anyone can say anything about anything at any time. So it’s not something to be taken too seriously. It’s more for the lawyers to deal with. Since it’s a legal matter, I won’t speak much about it, but it’s nothing serious.”

What Is The Lawsuit About?

According to a report in Mid-day, Eros International claims that Rai and his production company, Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP, unlawfully used intellectual property rights associated with Raanjhanaa to promote Tere Ishk Mein, which released in November 2025. Eros alleges that they hold exclusive rights over Raanjhanaa, including copyrights, trademarks, characters, dialogues, and rights to sequels or remakes. The company has accused the filmmakers of suggesting a connection between the two films.

The suit seeks Rs 84 crore in damages, citing copyright infringement, trademark violation, and passing off. Eros pointed out that in Tere Ishk Mein, Dhanush’s character is named Shankar, similar to Kundan Shankar from Raanjhanaa, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub’s character is named Murari in both films. They also highlighted that the teaser featured phrases like “From the world of Raanjhanaa,” which they claim amounted to unauthorized use.
