Ahan Shetty Reveals He Wasn't Allowed To Sign Any Films For 4 Years Under Contract

Ahan Shetty opened up about his journey of overcoming a period of low confidence when he was unable to sign any films for four years due to contractual obligations. Son of actor Suniel Shetty, Ahan made his debut in 2021 with Tadap. However, it was only in 2026 that he experienced significant fame and success with Border 2.

Ahan Shetty Reveals He Wasn’t Allowed To Sign Any Films For 4 Years Under Contract

In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Ahan explained why he didn’t take on any projects after Tadap. Although his debut film didn’t perform well at the box office, his performance was praised by critics. He revealed, “Tadap made Rs 40 crore at a time when most films weren’t crossing Rs 10 crore. People said it didn’t do well in terms of numbers, but we made a profit. Still, the film had expectations, and after that, things got difficult. I was very low on confidence during that period. I was bound by a contract with Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, so I couldn’t sign any other film for four years. Many offers came my way, but you can’t breach a contract.”

He also shared how he finally came on board for Border 2. “JP Dutta sir and Nidhi didi were having dinner at my place. Nidhi didi turned to me and said, ‘How would you like to be part of Border 2?’ I told her we’d discuss it when it actually happened. She laughed and said, ‘Ahan, it’s happening now.’ For a couple of days, I was skeptical because I couldn’t believe they wanted me, a newcomer, to be part of such a big film. I hadn’t been able to do anything for four years and was fighting my own battles. Being part of this film means a lot to me.”

About Border 2’s Success

Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan war. It stars Sunny Deol in the lead, alongside Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty. The movie opened strongly at the box office and has so far collected Rs 246 crore domestically and over Rs 300 crore worldwide. Border 2 continues to run successfully in theatres.
