Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s upcoming film, Bhooth Bangla, was originally conceived to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Although those initial plans didn’t materialise, Priyadarshan revisited and reworked the script when the duo reunited after 16 years. Sometimes, a compelling story needs time and a new identity to truly come alive—something Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan know well as they rejoined to bring Bhooth Bangla to life.
Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla Was Supposed To Be Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
Sources told Mid-Day that Bhooth Bangla was initially envisioned as a follow-up to Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which starred Kumar and Vidya Balan and was a massive success. Both Kumar and Priyadarshan were eager to continue the franchise.
A source shared, “Priyadarshan had drafted a sequel. He was confident that if the franchise was to continue, it would involve Akshay. But those plans didn’t happen back then. Later, T-Series took the franchise forward with director Anees Bazmee and Kartik Aaryan. When Priyadarshan and Akshay decided to reunite, Priyadarshan reworked that original draft.”
Bhooth Bangla also features Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and the late Asrani in its cast. There are six movies that Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Priyadarshan have collaborated on.
