Akshay Kumar recently shared his thoughts on language preferences within the film industry, emphasising his consistent choice to speak in Hindi, even during a time when English was considered more fashionable. Reflecting on his experience in Bollywood, Akshay explained that he has always preferred Hindi because it brings him comfort.
Akshay Kumar On Language Debate In Bollywood
“In the ’90s, even during award nights, I made it a point to speak in Hindi. Generally, I always converse in Hindi. Even at many of my events where English is common, I tell them, you speak in English, I will speak in Hindi—that’s my comfort zone,” Akshay Kumar told IANS.
He noted that while English gained popularity in the 1990s, actors like him and Govinda were among the few who confidently communicated in Hindi, prioritising comfort and authenticity over social snobbery. Akshay further mentioned that for him, language is more about personal ease than perception.
Rajpal Yadav On Language Debate
Actor Rajpal Yadav, who was also part of the interview, added that language has never been a barrier on film sets despite the diverse backgrounds of the cast and crew. “On a set with around 250 people—Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Assamese, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati—it’s a melting pot. Yet, there has never been an issue with communication. Everyone understands cinema and communicates effectively,” he said.
