Akshay Kumar Reveals He’s NOT Playing The Lead In Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 5; Shares, “Mera Role Badhiya Hai, But Ajay Devgn Is The Hero”

10 days ago, Rohit Shetty took to social media and shared a video announcing the cast of Golmaal 5. Along with sharing that the OG cast of the franchise would be starring in the film, the makers also announced that Akshay Kumar would also be part of the comedy. Now, during a recent interaction, the actor opened up about his character in it and whether or not he’s playing the lead in it. Read on to know all he had to say.

Amid reports of Akshay Kumar being cast as the antagonist of Golmaal 5, Akshay Kumar revealed he’s not playing the lead in the upcoming ensemble starrer. The actor told News 18, “I’m happy that they think I was good enough to be a part of Golmaal. Ajay is the main hero. I’m not playing the main part. But what’s wrong with it? I look at a film as a film and never think ki main kya kar raha hoon uss film mein. For me, it’s far more important what the film is setting out to achieve. If I like the story, I’ll do it.”

Kumar further added, “Mera role badhiya hai Golmaal mein but Ajay’s the hero. I’ve no insecurity. Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai.” Akshay and Ajay have shared screen space in several films over the years. Some of their collab titled include Suhag, Khakee, Insan, Singham Again and Sooryavanshi.

During the same interaction, Akshay Kumar also reacted to Ajay Devgn’s witty remark of ‘koi bhi franchise nahi chhodta hai’ saying, “But isn’t it a great thing? It’s nice that whenever there’s any franchise, they want me.”

On Rohit Shetty’s birthday (March 14), the director shared the film’s announcement video with a note about how the franchise changed his life 20 years ago. He captioned the post, “20 years ago, the first Golmaal was released, a film that changed my life. The credit goes to you, my audience. Over the past 20 years, we have entertained you, and yes, sometimes disappointed you, but we have always been honest in our work. In the video, we see the cast – Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu, and Tusshar Kapoor, celebrate the return of Sharman Joshi to the franchise. It then show everyone looking surprised as Akshay Kumar joins them. For the appearance, Kumar sports a bald look as he makes a killer entrance dressed in a black kurta pyjama and dark sunglasses.
