While Anurag Basu continues to receive tons of love for his last theatrical film, Metro… In Dino, the audience is eagerly awaiting the release of his next. Starring Kartik Aaryan and South sensation Sreeleela, the upcoming romantic film – poised as the unofficial threequel in the Aashique franchise, promises fans a never-seen-before avatar of Kartik in a musical drama.

The yet-to-be-titled film was initially slated for a Diwali release, however, new reports now reveal it will hit theatres only in 2026. As fans wonder why the film’s release is being delayed, several industry sources have claimed its due to the immense love Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara has received. This success has reported prompted the makers to push the release. But is it true?

As per media reports, an industry source has sated that certain themes and elements in Kartik Aaryan-Anurag Basu’s film are similar to Saiyaara. Both films center on the lives of an upcoming music stars and their star-crossed love stories. They added that in order to avoid any direct comparisons, Basu and his team are now reportedly rewritten certain portion of their script and planning to reshoot them.

During a recent interaction with India Today, director Anurag Basu reacted to the news. Denying all claims of his untitled next being delayed owing to the success YRF’s latest venture, Basu stated that he had been aware of the story and script of Mohit Suri’s film for a while. He said, “Given that both films feature performers as central characters, we knew comparisons would be drawn. But the two films are completely different from each other.”

Basu however, did confirm that the film’s release has been delayed – but due to different reasons. he stated, “Kartik was busy with Karan Johar’s film (‘Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri’), and I was also occupied with Metro’s release. We’ll soon move on to our next schedule and aim to wrap the film soon.”

Anurag Basu’s untitled romantic with Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela is said to be a spiritual sequel to the Aashiqui franchise. However, due to the ongoing legal battle with Vishesh Films, T-Series may not have secured rights to the Aashiqui title yet. However, audiences will hear the franchise’s iconic title track in the new film, albeit in a revamped version. The chemistry between Kartik and Sreeleela is also being touted as a major highlight. The team is reportedly pumped up about delivering a romance that will be remembered for years to come. As of now, they are looking at an early 2026 release.
