Punjabi singer AP Dhillon has made it clear why he has never performed for Bollywood, citing issues of artist exploitation and song ownership. Dhillon revealed that while some actors have expressed interest in including his music in their films, they often seek to own the rights, including remix and exploitation rights, which he finds unacceptable.
AP Dhillon Explains Why He Refuses Bollywood Songs
In a recent podcast with SMTV on YouTube, Dhillon shared that his decision stems from a desire to protect his fellow artists and set a positive example. He explained in Punjabi, “I’ll tell you why I’ve never done a Bollywood song yet. It’s only because I care for my people. It’s not about Bollywood. I want to set an example for my people.”
“I told them I’d be happy to do a song for them, but only if they change their way of doing business,” he said. “They exploit the song and the artist for their own profit. I didn’t want to name anyone, but a few big actors have said they want my music. We even had a scene planned. But they want to own the rights, and that’s not right.”
Dhillon emphasised that until the industry’s top actors change their approach, progress will be slow. He pointed out that if he agrees to collaborate, Bollywood will simply approach the next big Punjabi artist, as there are only a few. While stars like Diljit Dosanjh, Karan Aujla, Honey Singh, and Badshah have made successful Bollywood hits, AP Dhillon has chosen to steer clear of the industry. Recently, he collaborated with Shreya Ghoshal on the track Thodi Si Daaru, featuring Tara Sutaria.
AP’s Upcoming Tour
Dhillon has announced his ‘One of One India Tour,’ which will see him perform in eight cities. The tour begins on December 5 in Ahmedabad, followed by Delhi on December 7, Ludhiana on December 12, Pune on December 14, Bengaluru on December 19, Kolkata on December 21, Mumbai on December 26, and wraps up in Jaipur on December 28.
