The heartbreaking news of Dharmendra’s passing has not only devastated fans but also abruptly halted one of Bollywood’s most eagerly anticipated projects. Director Anil Sharma has confirmed that Apne 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2007 film Apne, will no longer be made. The film was intended to showcase three generations of the Deol family coming together on screen.
Apne 2 Director Anil Sharma Confirms Sequel Has Been SHELVED Following Dharmendra’s Death
Dharmendra, who was 89, passed away on November 24 after battling a prolonged illness. He had recently been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital and was recuperating at home when his health took a turn for the worse.
Sharma, who had been working on the sequel, told Hindustan Times, “Apne is a film about loved ones. Without Dharamji, it’s impossible to make the sequel. Everything was in place—the script was ready and preparations were underway—but he left us. Some dreams remain unfulfilled. Without him, it just can’t happen.”
Dharmendra-Anil Sharma’s long association
Dharmendra and director Anil Sharma shared a long and successful collaboration, working together on films like Hukumat, Elaan-E-Jung, Farishtay, Tahalka, and Apne. Their planned reunion for Apne 2 was envisioned as another heartfelt milestone in their partnership—one that, sadly, will now remain incomplete.
Ikkis Becomes Dharmendra’s Final Screen Appearance
Dharmendra’s last on-screen performance will be Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan and starring Agastya Nanda. The film is scheduled to release on December 25, 2025, exactly one month after the legendary actor’s passing.
Apne 2—planned as a continuation of the beloved 2007 family drama. It would star Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Karan Deol. It was announced years ago, but never went into production.
