Actor Atul Kulkarni recently visited Pahalgam, Kashmir, just days after a tragic terrorist attack shook the region. Speaking to BBC News Hindi during his journey, Atul expressed deep sorrow over the April 22 attack that claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen at Baisaran meadow. However, rather than bowing to fear, he called for resilience, urging Indians to continue visiting Kashmir as a show of unity and support.
Atul Kulkarni On Pahalgam Attack
Atul stressed that the terrorists’ clear message was to instill fear and discourage tourism in Kashmir. “But Kashmir is ours,” he declared firmly. “Itni badi tadaat mein log arahe the yaha 1-2 saalon mein. Achanak se agar rukh gaye hum log toh ek jo sambandh ban rahe hai mainland aur Kashmir ka woh rukna nahi chahiye…Jo atanwadiyon ne humein message diye ki, ‘Yaha mat aiyye.’ Toh nahi, hum toh ayenge, humara Kashmir hai, hum yaha ayenge, badi tadaat mein ayenge” (In the last 1-2 years, people had started coming here in large numbers. If we suddenly stop now, the bond that is forming between the mainland and Kashmir should not be broken. The terrorists have given us a message saying, ‘Don’t come here.’ But no — we will come, Kashmir is ours, and we will come here in large numbers.)
In an emotional reflection, Atul said that after the attack, he thought about what real action he could take beyond mere social media posts and conversations. Realizing that nearly 90% of bookings had been canceled despite it being peak season, he decided to act by traveling to Kashmir himself, demonstrating solidarity with Kashmiris and reinforcing the spirit of Kashmiriyat.
Documenting his journey from Mumbai to Srinagar, Atul shared pictures on Instagram — empty flight seats, his boarding pass, notes from the flight crew, and serene views of Kashmir’s landscapes. He also posted images of local Kashmiris condemning the attack and waving the Indian national flag, capturing the resilience and hospitality of the people.
Atul’s powerful message was accompanied by heartfelt hashtags like #ChaloKashmir, #Feet_in_Kashmir, #Kashmiriyat, #Love_Compassion, and #DefeatTerror. His visit sends a defiant and compassionate message: that terrorism cannot and will not break the bond between Kashmir and the rest of India.
