Ayushmann Khurrana Calls Yeh Prem Mol Liya Director Sooraj Barjatya A 'Quintessential Green Flag'

A classic family drama had been missing from Ayushmann Khurrana’s filmography despite his ventures into diverse genres. Now, the actor is set to collaborate with one of the best in the industry, Sooraj Barjatya.

Ayushmann Khurrana Calls Sooraj Barjatya A ‘Quintessential Green Flag’

Having recently completed the first schedule of Yeh Prem Mol Liya, Ayushmann Khurrana expressed his admiration for the filmmaker’s humility. “Sooraj sir is one of the most successful directors, but he’s simple and hard-working. He works like a nerd, and that inspires me the most,” shared the actor to Mid-Day.

Taking on the role of Prem is a significant milestone for Khurrana. However, what he finds particularly noteworthy is that this character contrasts with the roles he usually gravitates towards. He explained, “The best part of a Sooraj Barjatya film is that the hero is always a quintessential green flag. I usually love portraying characters who are flawed and have an arc, but here, the entire family is a green flag.”

Ayushmann On Experimenting With Varied Genres

In 2025, Khurrana’s sole release was Thamma. He will begin 2026 with Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. He recognises that these projects are a departure from the unconventional films he’s known for — from Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) to Andhadhun (2018).

“The reason I’m doing films like Thamma and Pati Patni Aur Woh Do for a wider audience is because I also want to do films like Andhadhun and Article 15 (2019). I believe An Action Hero (2022) could have done better. So, I’m mixing up genres — some commercial films with projects that are unique. You have to gain the audience’s faith. That’s what I tried to build with Dream Girl 2 (2023) and Thamma. That will get translated to my other films as well.”

On the work front, Ayushmann was last seen in Maddock Films’ Thamma with Rashmika Mandanna. It was theatrically released on Diwali this year. His film, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, also starring Sara Ali Khan and Wamiqa Gabbi, is scheduled to release on Holi 2026.
