Music composer Anu Malik was accused of sexual harassment in 2018 during India’s #MeToo movement. Singers like Sona Mohapatra, Neha Bhasin, Alisha Chinai, and others came forward with serious allegations. Now, Anu’s younger brother Daboo Malik has opened up about how their family dealt with the difficult time.
Daboo Malik On How Family Coped with Anu Malik’s #MeToo
Daboo said the situation deeply affected them. Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, he said, “It shattered us as a family. He was also taken aback. We couldn’t handle the pain he went through. We supported him emotionally and made sure he slowly got back to work. I didn’t judge him—just helped him during that low phase.”
Daboo also shared how their elderly parents, both in their 80s at the time, struggled to understand what was happening. “They just couldn’t process it,” he said.
When asked if he or their other brother, Abu Malik, found it tough to face the public, Daboo replied, “We are not stars like Shah Rukh Khan. We are musicians. People on social media often talk too much and give too much importance to things. We don’t see ourselves as that important.”
Here’s What Happened In Anu Malik’s Case
In 2018, multiple women accused Anu Malik of sexual misconduct. Singer Shweta Pandit alleged he made a pass at her when she was just 15. While lyricist Sameer defended him, Sona Mohapatra and Neha Bhasin repeated their claims of predatory behaviour. Malik denied all allegations but stepped down from Indian Idol 10 due to public backlash. He returned briefly for Season 11 but left again, saying he couldn’t focus.
In 2020, the National Commission for Women closed the case due to a lack of strong evidence but said it could reopen if new evidence came up.
