What began as a grassroots effort to instill reading habits in schoolchildren has now grown into a full-fledged cultural shift. Launched in 2022, Read Latur started by setting up libraries in over 150 Zilla Parishad schools, equipping students with access to high-quality books. The response was immediate and inspiring: children embraced reading with renewed enthusiasm and curiosity.

Building on this success, the initiative took a heartfelt leap forward with the launch of Family Libraries on April 6, 2025—coinciding with Mr Dhiraj Deshmukh’s birthday. This new phase of the campaign brings curated books into homes, tailored to the reading interests of each family member, turning entire households into spaces of shared learning and connection.

About Family Library

The first Family Library was inaugurated at the Khushigram family, a home for orphaned children in Latur, symbolising the inclusive and empowering spirit of the initiative. “The goal is simple yet powerful—to make reading a joyful, collective experience within families,” said Mrs Deepshikha Deshmukh, the visionary behind the concept. “When parents and children read together, it not only builds knowledge but also strengthens bonds.”

The Family Libraries are more than just book kits—they are conversation-starters, imagination boosters, and bridges between generations. The initiative has received accolades from the Governor of Maharashtra and has been featured by entrepreneurial platforms like Entrepreneur India, Read Latur continues to receive praise for its impact. However, the real reward lies in the smiles of children discovering magical worlds and the warmth of families gathered around stories that inspire and connect.

At the heart of it all are Deepshikha and Dhiraj Deshmukh—leaders whose unwavering belief in the power of reading has turned a simple idea into a transformative movement. Their compassion, vision, and commitment to community upliftment are lighting a path for many others to follow. In a world of distractions, Read Latur is a reminder that books still hold the power to change lives—one story, one child, and now, one family at a time.
