Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar – starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and others, has been ruling the box office ever since it released in theatres on December 5. After more than 50 days of successfully running in cinemas, the film released on OTT and garnered millions of views. While many took to social media and praised the spy action thriller, Dhadak 2 director, Shazia Iqbal, seemingly called it a ‘sinister’ film in her Instagram Stories.
Read on to know what she wrote that has now led to her making her Insta handle private.
Dhadak 2 Director Shazia Iqbal Makes Instagram Private After Calling Dhurandhar ‘Sinister’
Without naming the film initially, Shazia Iqbal took to her Instagram Stories and slammed the film and its makers for its intent and message. Accusing the blockbuster of promoting hate and violence, she wrote, “What a sinister film! It’s not hidden, it’s not unintentional – inciting hate and violence is in the DNA of the film. But it’s a ‘well made’ film guys… With some cool BgM (smile emoji). Well done industry dud bros. Glad that most of y’all don’t care about minorities enough to even hide your blatant apathy.”
In a following Story, Iqbal reposted a screenshot of an Instagram DM that directly referenced Dhurandhar. On it she wrote, “How are so many people/lists saying Dhadak 2 and Dhurandhar in the same breath, like schizophrenia ho gaya hai kya logon ko (do they have schizophrenia or what) (laughing with tears emoji). Or people really do contain multitudes and we’re too rigid (laughing with tears emoji).”
A day after posting the negative review, Shazia Iqbal made her Instagram handle private. The reason for this move is being attributed to the filmmaker receiving mixed responses to her views as well as backlash from those who love the film immensely.
