Dhanashree Verma-Yuzvendra Chahal Appear In Family Court For Divorce
On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court fast-tracked the mutual consent divorce petition filed by Chahal and Verma, waiving the mandatory six-month cooling-off period typically required under the Hindu Marriage Act. Today, Dhanashree and Yuzvendra were spotted by paparazzi as they arrived at the court. They were dressed in plain clothes, wearing face masks and sunglasses to hide their faces, and quickly entered the courtroom.
The couple had submitted a joint petition via their lawyer, Nitin Gupta, requesting the waiver of the cooling-off period, arguing that they are seeking a divorce by mutual consent. They challenged a February 20 order from the family court that had denied their request to waive the period. The cooling-off period is designed to provide couples time to consider reconciliation.
Justice Madhav Jamdar instructed the Bandra Family Court to resolve the couple’s divorce petition by March 20, noting that Chahal would be unavailable after March 21 due to his commitments with the Indian Premier League (IPL). Justice Jamdar acknowledged that Chahal’s participation in the IPL would limit his availability, stating, “The family court is hence requested to decide their divorce plea by tomorrow (March 20).”
Yuzvendra Chahal Prepapares To Play In IPL 2025
Chahal is set to play for the Punjab Kings in the upcoming IPL T20 tournament, which commences on March 22. The couple was married in December 2020, but according to their petition, they have been separated since June 2022. They filed for a mutual divorce on February 5, having complied with consent terms established during mediation, including alimony agreements.
About Dhanashree-Yuzvendra Divorce
The family court had initially refused to waive the cooling-off period. It cited that Chahal had partially complied with the consent terms mandating a payment of Rs 4.75 crore to Verma. He has only paid Rs 2.37 crore to date. A report from their marriage counsellor also indicated partial compliance with mediation efforts.
However, the High Court reversed the family court’s decision. They ruled that the couple had met the requirements laid out in their consent terms. It stated that the second instalment of permanent alimony would only be paid after the divorce decree was issued. “There is no impediment in the facts and circumstances of this case to allowing the petition. Accordingly, the impugned order of the family court is quashed,” the High Court concluded.
