Dharma Productions Revives Dostana 2 As OTT Film Starring Vikrant Massey And Lakshya Lalwani – Report

Dharma Productions is bringing back Dostana 2 but with a new twist. The film was first announced in 2019 with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya in lead roles. However, after only 20 days of shooting, the project was shelved due to reported differences between Kartik and producer Karan Johar.

Dostana 2 To Release On Amazon Prime Video

Now, four years later, Dharma is rebooting the film with a new cast and turning it into a digital release for Amazon Prime Video as per peepingmoon.com.

The reworked version of Dostana 2 will feature Vikrant Massey and Lakshya in lead roles, playing two gay characters. The female lead has not yet been finalized, and Janhvi Kapoor is no longer part of the project. Vikrant is expected to step into the role initially meant for Kartik, while Lakshya will play the love interest.

The film will be directed by Advait Chandan, known for Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha. He replaces Collin D’Cunha, who had to step down due to other commitments, including Call Me Bae Season 2.

Production is expected to begin in November 2025, depending on Vikrant’s schedule. He is currently busy with the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar biopic and Don 3. If confirmed, this will be Vikrant’s first project with Dharma.

This film marks Dharma’s second sequel heading straight to OTT, after Student of the Year 3, now being made as a series for Jio Hotstar. Dostana 2 also extends Dharma’s ongoing collaboration with Amazon Prime Video under its digital wing, Dharmatic Entertainment.

Interestingly, Kartik and Karan Johar have now resolved their past differences. They are working together on two upcoming films — a romantic comedy with Ananya Panday, and a creature comedy titled Naagzilla, which is expected to begin filming by the end of 2025.
