With just one month left until Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2 releases in theatres, the hype surrounding the Ranveer Singh-led sequel is only set to increase day-by-day. While fans are eager to watch part two of the spy action thriller, the film has courted controversy as the BMC has threatened to blacklist B62 Studio over alleged safety violations of sets. Now, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has spoken up.
The association has sharply criticised the repeated safety lapses by the Dhurandhar 2 crew and have also demanded stringent action against those found responsible. Read on to know all they said.
AICWA Slams Dhurandhar 2 Makers After BMC Threatens To Blacklist Studio
As reported by India Today, the AICWA statement read, “For years the organisation has consistently raised serious concerns that many production houses continue to ignore mandatory safety norms, legal regulations, and basic human protection on shooting sets. Due to such gross negligence, every year several workers lose their lives, while many others suffer severe injuries caused by fires, electric shocks, and collapsing or unsafe sets. Tragic incidents at Goregaon Film City and other studios, where workers lost their lives due to fire and unsafe working conditions, remain painful reminders of the ongoing danger faced by film workers.”
Addressing the Dhurandhar 2 matter, the cine body added, “AICWA firmly supports the action taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) against B62 Studios. Such strict measures are necessary because no production house is above the law. When safety norms are ignored, thousands of workers are put in danger. In Mumbai alone, hundreds of shootings take place daily, and a majority of production houses fail to properly follow mandatory legal and safety requirements.”
The statement further read, “As President of AICWA, Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has repeatedly urged authorities to conduct regular and strict inspections of every shooting set and to take the strongest possible action wherever negligence is found. The lives of workers cannot be treated as expendable. Accountability must be fixed, and those responsible for endangering workers must face serious legal consequences.”
What Are The Violations
As reported earlier, the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited had received an application from the production house seeking permission to shoot a couple of scenes between February 7 and 8. Earlier, on January 30, permission was granted for filming in areas between Modi Street and Perin Nariman Street in A ward.
However, authorities reported that the film set ‘completely violated’ police terms, including bans on using crackers and flammable materials. Subsequently, the same organization received another application from Komal Pokhriyal for shooting between February 13 and 14. Due to prior violations, this application was canceled, prompting the applicant to submit a new request on the Maharashtra Film Corporation website for permission to shoot between 12:30 am and 4 am on February 14.
The repeated violations resulted in Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Zone I approving the permanent blacklisting of B62 Studios, along with two other applicants. The backlisting will prevent them from submitting further filming permissions through the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited.
Additionally, the civic body also demanded a penalty of Rs 1 lakh for filming on a building terrace and operating two generator vans without proper approvals. The BMC also called for the forfeiture of the Rs 25,000 security deposit submitted by the production house.
