In the footage, Feroz Khan’s voice-over describes Indira Gandhi as the “Iron Lady of our nation” and the “Mother of our great nation.” He also refers to Sanjay Gandhi as the “Sleeping Prince.” The makers reportedly decided to donate the proceeds from the film’s premiere shows in Bangalore and Delhi to the government in memory of Sanjay Gandhi.
Fans REACT
X users commented on the viral tribute video, labelling it propaganda from the 1980s. One shared the clip with the caption, “Dear GenZ, this is from the 1980 Hindi movie Qurbani. You should see this. I have no further comments.”
Another wrote, “Peak propaganda. They called Sanjay Gandhi the Prince of India. Without Jan Sangh, this would’ve ended up in NCERT textbooks.” A different user added, “Propaganda before propaganda was even a thing.” Meanwhile, a supporter of Feroz Khan said, “I respect him because he openly insulted Pakistan during a visit there. Also, read about Sanjay Gandhi’s character, and you’ll see this differently.”
One comment noted, “This movie was released 3 days before the plane crash. It’s understandable that some theatres might have wanted to pay last respects to such a leader. At that time, social media didn’t exist.”
