Madras HC Issues Order Against Illegal Streaming Of Dhurandhar 2

Just ahead of its much-anticipated release, the Madras High Court has taken action to curb piracy of Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The court has issued an interim injunction against unauthorised streaming and broadcasting of the film, offering legal protection a day before its scheduled release on March 19. The order aims to prevent illegal online and cable platform transmissions and ensure that Dhurandhar 2’s theatrical debut proceeds smoothly.

Madras HC Issues Order Against Illegal Streaming Of Dhurandhar 2

Passed on March 18, the day before the film’s release, the court’s order restricts internet service providers and cable TV operators from illegally streaming or telecasting Dhurandhar 2 until April 15, according to Bar and Bench. This legal move comes amid ongoing paid previews and heightened anticipation.

The petition was filed by Reliance Industries Limited and Jio Studios, represented by advocate T Pandian of PK Law firm. They raised concerns over copyright violations and unauthorised dissemination of the movie across digital and cable platforms. They warned that piracy could cause significant financial losses during the film’s nationwide rollout.

Recognising the urgency of the matter, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy noted that failure to act could result in “irreversible injury” to the rights holders. The court also acknowledged that some intermediaries’ legitimate business interests might be affected, and to balance these concerns, it directed the producers to provide indemnity to affected parties. Notices have been issued to the relevant respondents, with further hearings scheduled for April 15.

Reliance had previously filed a similar plea in February seeking broader anti-piracy measures for the same film. However, they later withdrew it.
