Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge Ram Gopal Varma

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again heaped high praise on Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, this time reacting to its massive box office opening and growing audience approval. After previously calling the film “Sholay x 100,” RGV doubled down on his admiration, claiming that the sequel will fundamentally shake up the industry’s approach to heroism and filmmaking.

Ram Gopal Varma Declares Dhurandhar 2 A ‘Horror’ For Filmmakers

In a long note shared on X, RGV described the film as a “horror” not for audiences, but for filmmakers who rely on formulaic, over-the-top cinema. “The cinema that was rammed down our throats full of loudness and masala will now be on a ventilator struggling for breath,” he wrote, adding that the film will unsettle directors who continue to “worship the godly hero.”

Praising Ranveer Singh’s performance, he said the actor has “killed all those heroes who never bleed and never feel pain,” replacing them with a “true real hero—flawed, yet dangerous and unpredictable.” He emphasised that this version of heroism stems from action and character depth rather than exaggerated presentation, noting that after this, “godly heroes will suddenly look ridiculous, almost like clowns in a circus.”

The filmmaker also aimed for gravity-defying action sequences often seen in Indian cinema, stating that Dhurandhar 2 will “terrify” filmmakers who treat physics as a joke. “After the audience saw the action that actually hurts, that actually bleeds, the flying goon brigade will suddenly feel cheap, fake, and embarrassingly ridiculous,” he wrote, adding that directors dependent on wires, cranes, and stylised visuals will now be “shivering in cold sweat.”

Calling the film “not just a movie but a verdict,” RGV said Aditya Dhar has effectively dismantled a style of filmmaking that “insulted the intelligence of the audience” and turned heroes into untouchable figures. He concluded with a sharp warning, saying that if filmmakers don’t “go back to their drawing boards and exorcise themselves by watching Dhurandhar 2 multiple times, even god can’t save their spirits.”

With such strong words from one of the industry’s most outspoken voices, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is not just dominating the box office but also sparking a larger conversation about the future of mainstream Indian cinema.
