After its theatrical run, Dhurandhar is now available on OTT platforms post its digital release. However, social media users have raised concerns about the OTT version being shorter than the theatrical one. The blockbuster of 2025, featuring Ranveer Singh, has already earned massive profits at the box office and is now available for streaming. But fans are questioning the discrepancy in runtime, as the OTT version (3 hours 25 minutes) is slightly shorter than the theatrical version (3 hours 34 minutes). Some viewers also claimed that Netflix has removed certain dialogues and expletives from the film.
Netflix Addresses 9 Min Censorship Row Over Dhurandhar OTT Release
In an interview with India Today, industry insiders explained that such changes are often made to improve the viewing experience on OTT. They mentioned that filmmakers sometimes adjust the pacing, trim credits, or make edits to scenes that couldn’t be included in the theatrical release. These modifications are typically communicated to the streaming platform by the production house, aiming to enhance the overall viewer experience.
Dhurandhar Is 3 Min Shorter On OTT
A few weeks after the film’s release, the Baloch community filed a petition protesting their portrayal, especially a dialogue spoken by Sanjay Dutt. As a result, the court ordered the makers to modify certain scenes. The revised version was re-released in theatres on January 1. According to the CBFC certificates issued on December 4 and January 5, the updated runtime is around 209 minutes (roughly 3 hours 29 minutes). This indicates that the version available on Netflix is about three minutes shorter, not ten as some social media posts claim.
Disclaimers Have Been Removed From The OTT Version
Sources revealed that the theatrical release included statutory disclaimers regarding smoking, which might not appear in the same way on OTT platforms. This could contribute to the slight difference in runtime. However, the filmmakers have not yet officially explained the reason for the shorter duration.
It’s important to clarify that streaming platforms like Netflix do not have the authority to cut or alter the film themselves. They simply stream the version provided by the producers, acting as distributors. The production team would have made any edits made before delivery.
