The first look of Nitesh Tiwari’s grand Ramayana project left fans in awe. Although viewers only caught a brief glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor’s appearance as Ram in the teaser, excitement is building to see the full cast come together on screen. Recently, it was announced that Arun Govil, who portrayed Ram in that series, has been cast as Ram’s father, Dasharath, in the new film.

Dipika Chikhlia NOT Happy With Arun Govil Playing Dashrath In Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana

Dipika, who played Sita in the iconic TV adaptation, voiced her opinion on Arun’s new role. She said, “I have seen him as Ram and I’ve seen myself as Sita. For me to see him as Dasarath is really a little out of context,” she told Times of India. While she acknowledged that playing Dasharath after embodying Ram, an image so strongly associated with Arun Govil. It is a “personal choice” he made, she emphasised how challenging it is to break such a long-standing perception. “I mean, if you played Ram, then you are Ram,” she stated.

Dipika also expressed disappointment about not being approached to be part of the new project. “I was never approached. I guess they’ve not even bothered to speak to me about it,” she said. She added that even if she had been asked, she wouldn’t have taken any role in Ramayana. She cannot imagine playing anyone other than Sita—the character she brought to life on television. “Once I played Sita, I don’t think I can play any other character in Ramayan,” she explained. However, she revealed she is open to acting in films or series based on other epics like the Mahabharat and Shiv Puran. But she reiterated that she cannot take on any role in Ramayana again.
