Bhagyashree recalls how Salman Khan once stood up for her during their Maine Pyar Kiya publicity shoot when a photographer suggested kissing her without her consent. The actress shared a memorable incident from early in her career that highlighted Salman’s respect for boundaries, at a time when such issues were rarely discussed in Bollywood.
Bhagyashree Recalls Maine Pyar Kiya Co-Star Salman Khan Did Not Kiss Her Without Consent
In a 2015 interview with Rediff, Bhagyashree explained, “There was a well-known photographer at that time — I prefer not to name him — who came for a publicity shoot and wanted some hot, sizzling pictures. We were shooting at a hotel, I think it was Holiday Inn or Sun N Sand in Juhu, Mumbai.”
She continued, “That photographer was instructing Salman to kiss me without my knowledge and telling him how to hold me during the shoot. Neither of them realised I was listening.”
To her surprise, Salman refused to go along with the photographer’s request. “Salman asked the photographer, ‘Have you asked her?’ The photographer replied, ‘No. What’s the need to ask? Just do it; it’s only one shot.’ Salman then said, ‘I’m not going to do anything like that. You must take her permission. Only if she agrees, then I will do it.’”
Bhagyashree emphasised that even early on, Salman’s professionalism and respect for her boundaries stood out. The two went on to become one of Bollywood’s most beloved on-screen pairs after their debut in Sooraj Barjatya’s 1989 hit Maine Pyar Kiya, which marked their entry into the industry.
Bhagyashree On Her Marriage To Himalaya Dasani
She married Himalaya Dasani at the age of 19, and only Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya’s family attended her wedding. “Only Salman and Soorajji’s family were there from my side,” she shared in another Rediff interview. “My parents felt I was too young to marry and chose not to attend. I don’t blame them.”
After her marriage, Bhagyashree took a break from acting but has spoken fondly of her debut co-star over the years. She made selective appearances in films and television. She made a notable comeback with Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii (2021), where she portrayed the role of Jayalalithaa’s mother.
