Sonam Bajwa has revealed that she once turned down Bollywood films due to concerns over kissing scenes, worried about how audiences in Punjab and her family would react. The Punjabi actress shared that her initial hesitation stemmed from fear and uncertainty rather than personal choice.
Sonam Bajwa On Turning Down Bollywood Films
In an interview with Film Companion, Sonam explained that she had doubts about whether her audience in Punjab would accept her performing intimate scenes on screen. However, her perspective changed after she discussed it with her parents, whose reaction surprised her.
She recalled, “I said no to a couple of things in Bollywood because I was like, ‘Is Punjab going to be okay with this?’ We have that mentality that families will be watching… I was very scared to do a kissing scene because I wondered, ‘How will people respond? How will my family, who have supported me, understand that this is for a film?’ I had all these questions in my mind.”
Sonam On The Conversation With Her Parents
However, her perspective shifted after discussing it with her parents. “A few years ago, I talked to my mom and dad about it. They said, ‘Yes, if it’s for a film, it’s fine.’ I was so shocked. Why did I not speak to them earlier? We tend to assume so much in our heads. I was shy to bring it up, and they were so supportive, saying, ‘Koi nahi, je film liya, koi chakkar ni’ (It’s for a film, no problem),” she shared.
