Farhan Akhtar To Make His Hollywood Debut With The Beatles Biopic; Actor To Play Pandit Ravi Shankar In Sam Mendes’ Directorial

Farhan Akhtar is set to make his grand Hollywood debut by portraying Pandit Ravi Shankar. The legendary Indian musician and close friend of The Beatles. Actor-director Farhan will feature in Sam Mendes’ ambitious four-part biopic series about the iconic band. He will play Pandit Ravi Shankar, the renowned Indian classical musician who hosted The Beatles during their visit to India in the 1970s.

On Thursday, Sony Pictures announced the latest cast details for The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Along with Farhan’s casting as Ravi Shankar, the announcement revealed that Lucy Boynton will portray Jane Asher, Paul McCartney’s fiancée; Morfydd Clark will play Cynthia Powell, John Lennon’s first wife; and Harry Lawtey will take on the role of Stuart Sutcliffe, The Beatles’ original drummer.

This marks Farhan’s first venture into international cinema. Previously, he made a brief appearance in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel in 2022. Details regarding his filming schedule have not yet been disclosed.

About The Beatles Biopics

The Beatles is a four-part cinematic project that explores the lives of the 5 members of the legendary band. Each film will tell from the perspective of one Fab Four member. Harris Dickinson stars as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.

The series features a notable supporting cast. It includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, James Norton as Brian Epstein, and Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono. Other cast members include Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey, and Harry Lloyd as producer George Martin.

The scripts are written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne. Filming is expected to conclude by the end of this year, followed by an extended post-production phase. The films are scheduled for a worldwide release in April 2028 and are currently in production. Directed by Sam Mendes, the project is produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Neal Street Productions, and Apple Corps.
