Actor Harshvardhan Rane has announced that he will not take part in the sequel of his 2016 romantic film Sanam Teri Kasam if the original cast is retained. The film starred Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane. This decision comes amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan following recent terror attacks and military action.
Harshvardhan Declines Sequel Of Sanam Teri Kasam If Original Cast Retains
Harshvardhan shared a message on his Instagram stories, stating that while he is thankful for the opportunity to have worked in the first film, he can’t be part of the sequel if the earlier cast is repeated. Without naming anyone directly, his statement seems to refer to Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane, who starred opposite him in the original film.
“I am grateful for the experience, but given the recent comments made about my country, I have made the decision to respectfully step away from Sanam Teri Kasam 2 if the previous cast is involved,” Rane wrote.

His decision aligns with the renewed ban announced by the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which strictly prohibits any collaboration with Pakistani artists, filmmakers, or investors. This ban was reinforced after India launched Operation Sindoor—a military strike on May 7 targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, in response to the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region.
AICWA’s statement made it clear that Indian artists must not work with Pakistani talent or share platforms with them. Following this, several Pakistani celebrities, including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Wahaj Ali, and Sanam Saeed, have seen their Instagram profiles restricted for Indian users.
Harshvardhan’s decision has drawn attention to the impact of political tensions on film and cultural collaborations. With him stepping away, the future of Sanam Teri Kasam 2 remains uncertain, and it is yet to be seen how the makers will move forward with the project.
