Pratik Shah, cinematographer of Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound, has not yet responded to recent allegations of abuse. A former partner of his has come forward with detailed accusations, describing instances of sexual and physical abuse during their relationship.

This is not the first time she has spoken out. In a blog post, she revisited her earlier allegations from a 2015 Facebook update, emphasising her decision to speak publicly again to reveal the truth. In her detailed account, she describes a relationship marked by emotional manipulation, controlling behaviour, and escalating violence. She recounts how Shah demanded access to her passwords, reacted with rage when she flirted online, and threatened self-harm in episodes of intense anger.

The blog also highlights a disturbing escalation of violence, including an incident where Shah pushed her into a shelf after discovering infidelity. She admits she did not report the incident at the time, despite neighbours calling the police. The most serious allegation pertains to an incident on her birthday weekend. She writes, “No” was not an option, and later states, “That would have been considered rape if he wasn’t my boyfriend,” underscoring the severity of the abuse she endured.

Shah’s recent professional work includes serving as director of photography on Homebound, which premiered at the 78th Cannes Film Festival to critical praise. However, following these allegations, Dharma Productions, associated with the film and Shah, distanced itself, announcing that Shah has been removed from upcoming projects, including the high-profile Sourav Ganguly biopic. A statement from the production house read, “We stand firmly against any form of abuse or misconduct.”

As the controversy unfolds, Shah has deactivated his social media accounts. He has not made any comments with regards to this incident.
