Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor tied the knot with her beau Anand Ahuja. The wedding was a traditional Sikh ceremony. For the Anand Karaj ceremony, Guru Granth Sahib was brought from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The lavish wedding was a well attended affair that ruled the social media for many days. But looks like the wedding hasn’t gone down well with a religious group in Punjab.

As per a report in Tribune, Sonam Kapoor and businessman Anand Ahuja’s traditional wedding has courted controversy, due to the violation of the Sikh “rehat maryada” (tenets).

The Tribune report quotes Sukhdev Singh Bhaur saying, “It was a violation of Sikh tenets if anyone sits before Guru Granth Sahib with a kalgi on turban. This implies that the person is equating himself to the stature of Gurus.”

It is further reported that, some former office-bearers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have accused SGPC staffers of not removing Anand’s kalgi (brooch) from his turban during the ceremony in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib, which is a violation of Sikh tenets. They have brought it to the notice of the Akal Takht and are demanding action against the SGPC members who officiated during the Anand Karaj ceremony.(Also Read: Sonam Kapoor receives a special wedding surprise at Cannes 2018)
