Karan Johar has addressed ongoing speculation about a sequel to his 2001 blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. He clarified the current status of any plans for a second instalment. He made it clear that there are no intentions to create K3G 2 or to rework on Takht.
Karan Johar On Reports Of Making Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham Sequel
In an interview on On Call with Sonal Kalra for The Right Angle, Karan Johar stated, “I’m glad I have this platform to clarify that there is no K3G 2, and there’s no derivative of Takht in the works. I would never make K3G 2—not because I think K3G was the greatest film ever, but because what K3G has in abundance is nostalgia.”
He continued, “Generations have grown up watching that film—what they loved, what made them cry—it’s still cherished. I’m very grateful for that, and I’m proud of what I created. But I’d never tamper with that nostalgia or the love people have for it, because attempting a sequel like K3G 2 would be setting myself up for failure.”
Johar highlighted that the film’s enduring appeal lies in the nostalgia it continues to evoke across multiple generations. He also confirmed that Takht is not currently being revived, though he remains committed to the project. Karan explained, “The real truth is, there’s no K3G 2, and Takht isn’t on the immediate horizon. But I definitely want to make Takht while I still can. It’s one of the best-written projects I’ve ever worked on, and I hope to see it realized in the future.”
About Takht
Takht was announced in 2021 with a star-studded cast. The film was supposed to feature Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, and Bhumi Pednekar. However, it faced delays due to COVID-19 and remains unreleased as of now. Regarding K3G, Johar’s stance is clear: the film will remain untouched, forever preserved as a cultural landmark rooted in nostalgia.
