Karan Johar Slams 'Clickbait' Headlines, Issues Social Media Statement After Remark Gets Linked To Janhvi Kapoor

Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar has addressed what he termed ‘clickbait headlines’ following widespread online discussion about his recent remarks on talent management and actor loyalty. Netizens are linking these remarks to actress Janhvi Kapoor. Scroll down to read more.

Karan Johar Issues Social Media Statement Against ‘Clickbait’ Headlines

Karan Johar took to Instagram on Monday, urging the media to avoid taking his words out of context. He wrote, “I want to politely speak of clickbait headlines…. Lots of us give interviews and podcasts, and we are happy to do so… but to take a line from an interview and quote it out of context is just clickbait and makes one wary of speaking at all….” He further added, “This is a humble request to NOT quote a line that twists the relevance of the statement made with integrity as opposed to sounding personal, offensive, or sensational…”

The clarification comes in response to comments he made during a podcast with content creator Sarthak Ahuja earlier this year, where he discussed the challenges of talent management and described the profession as a largely thankless job. Johar touched on how actors frequently switch agencies and the limited long-term loyalty in the industry. Without naming anyone, he referenced how agencies invest years in nurturing talent, only for some artists to change representation.

The remarks sparked speculation online, with some fans linking them to Janhvi Kapoor’s recent move from Dharma Cornerstone Agency Company to Collective Artists Network. However, Johar did not mention any specific actor in his comments.

Where Did The Controversy Start From?

The buzz initially arose after Johar discussed talent movement in the industry, referencing how actors often change agencies. This remark was interpreted by some as a comment on Janhvi Kapoor. Karan clarified that such movement is normal, given the limited number of major agencies. He further emphasised that he wishes well for artists who move on. He also remains open to collaborating with them in the future.

Karan admitted that he naturally prioritises talent from his own agency, whom he regards as part of his ‘family.’ Karan and Janhvi share a long-standing history, as he launched her in the 2018 film Dhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan.

About Their Work Front

Professionally, Johar’s most recent production, Tu Meri Main Tera, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, received a moderate response at the box office. He is currently producing projects including Chand Mera Dil, featuring Lakshya Lalwani and Ananya Panday, as well as Naagzilla, starring Kartik Aaryan.

Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor is slated to appear next in Peddi alongside Ram Charan, scheduled for release on April 30, 2026.
