Karan Johar’s Dharma Production Sues Humble Motion Pictures Over ‘Wrongful Termination’ Of Punjabi Film Deal
As per a Bollywood Hungama report, the petition was filed under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, seeking protection as the dispute goes to arbitration. Post the filing, Humble Motion Pictures requested time to reply to the allegations. The next hearing is scheduled for February 18.
About The Dispute
As per the petition filed, Dharma Production claims that the two companies signed a contract on December 10 stating that the Karan Johar-led production house would provide consultancy, marketing and related services for Vyaah Kartaare Da. While Karan’s production house was not required to bear production costs for the Punjabi film, it was entitled to a share of revenues until it recovered a fixed amount of Rs 7.03 crore, which the company had lost earlier during one of their collaborations.
The petition further stated that after signing the service agreement, Dharma promoted the film on its social media handle, but on January 21, 2026, Humble Motion Pictures suddenly terminated the agreement. In the email, the Dubai-based banner stated that they no longer wanted to continue Dharma’s services. Dharma, in its plea, argued that the service contract does not allow termination at will. They also claimed that Humble Motion Pictures benefited from the production house’s brand value and goodwill before ending the deal.
The report also states that Dharma Productions has asked the Bombay HC to stop Humble Motion Pictures from acting on the termination email and sought additional demands. The demand incldues, “Directions for Humble to pay or deposit 50% of overflow cinema collections and other film revenues, submission of detailed financial accounts, and an order directing Humble to deposit Rs 7.03 crore with the court.”
The next hearing will take place on February 18
