The family feud deepened following the death of Sunjay Kapur in London, which his mother, Rani Kapur, describes as “mysterious.” A fierce dispute over the estate of the late businessman—valued at Rs 30,000 crore—is escalating, involving his former wife, actor Karisma Kapoor, and his widow, Priya Sachdev. Now, Mandhira Kapur, Sunjay’s sister, has voiced her condemnation of the treatment her family amid feud has received, calling the entire ordeal “nothing short of a nightmare” and criticising the harshness directed at her 80-year-old mother.
Sunjay Kapur’s Sister Mandhira REACTS To Family Feud With Priya Sachdev
In an interview with NDTV, Mandhira stated, “I think it’s a little harsh on my mom to send her this letter saying she has nothing to do with the company she built. She’s 80. How about just respecting the fact that her husband and she made this? This is the legacy that my father built. Today, we’re being told we are not allowed to have this legacy.”
She also addressed Priya Sachdev Kapur’s proposal for Sunjay’s mother to move into their house in Delhi. She described it as “impractical at the moment.” Mandhira said, “I think right now it’s very tough for Mum even to go to that house. It is one thing that she got through after dad died, and to go back there with her son gone, it is going to be very hard for her to walk into that house. She’s not emotionally ready to face the fact that she has lost her son. Our life has been one big shock. And, you know, it feels like a nightmare which we want to wake up from.”
Mandhira Kapur Says They Are Being Treated As Outsiders
In an interview with ANI, Mandhira expressed her frustration over how her mother, Rani Kapur, who stood by her father’s side in building the company from its beginnings in jewellery to an automotive giant, has been sidelined.
“We are treated like strangers and outsiders. We’re not. We’re the ones who’ve done this. This entire thing is done by my father. So, how is everyone taking credit and taking everything out of it? My mother, who is alive, has not got nothing to do with it. My sister and I are being told basically to go to hell. I mean, we were not put in any obituary. We were not put on anything. You can try to take it away from us, but it’s in our blood,” she stated.
What Is Happening?
In a letter to the board of Sona Group, Rani Kapur, the mother of Sunjay and Mandhira Kapur, alleged that she is the sole beneficiary of Surinder Kapur’s (her husband) empire and the majority shareholder of the group, including Sona Comstar. Rani also claimed that she was forced to sign documents to appoint her daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev Kapur, as the non-executive director on the board. Later, the company issued a cease-and-desist notice to Rani Kapur, claiming that she had not had any role in the company since 2019.
The conflict intensified after Sunjay Kapur died in London, which his mother, Rani Kapur, refers to as “mysterious.” She has lodged a criminal complaint with UK authorities, demanding an investigation. Rani alleged coercion into signing documents and claimed that her financial freedoms have been restricted. She also expressed concerns over how the company’s legacy is being managed. In response, Sona Comstar denied her claims, stating she has had no involvement in the company since 2019 and has issued her a legal notice over “false” allegations.
