The Lok Sabha 2024 elections are currently underway in Mumbai and several Bollywood stars have been spotted at different polling booths across the city. Actors like Akshay Kumar, Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, and others are among those who have already cast their votes .
Akshay, who regained his Indian citizenship last year, flaunted his inked finger after casting his vote. The actor even spoke to the media gathered outside the polling booth he went to and urged people to go out and vote.
Akshay Kumar urges people to vote
In a video shared by ANI, Akshay Kumar says in Hindi, “I want my India to be developed and strong. I voted, keeping that in mind. India should vote for what it deems right… I think voter turnout will be good (in Mumbai)…”
The actor, when asked about casting his vote for the first time after getting his Indian citizenship, said, “This is great! I am feeling very good!” He also revealed that he didn’t receive VIP treatment at the polling booth and stood in line to go and cast his vote.

Kumar had applied for Canadian citizenship in the 1990s. He did this after more than a dozen of his consecutive films failed at the box office. In 2019, the actor renounced his Canadian citizenship, but the process took a long time to complete due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In August 2023, Akshay Kumar announced his Indian citizenship by shared a picture of his government documents. He tweeted, “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani (Heart and citizenship, both Indian). Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind.”
