Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming mystery thriller The Wives has intrigued the audience ever since the film was announced. Bhandarkar – who is know for making films such as Page 3, Fashion, Heroine, Calendar Girls and more, recently opened up about the film’s casting. For the unversed, earlier this year reports surfaced with regards to actress Fatima Sana Shaikh being cast in the film. However, when the filmmaker announced he project, it was with three other actresses — Regina Cassandra, Sonali Kulkarni and Mouni Roy.
Now, during a recent chat, Madhur addressed the rumours and revealed Fatima was never approached for the thriller. Read on to know his exact words.
Madhur Bhandarkar: Fatima Sana Shaikh Never Signed The Wives
During a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar revealed that the filming of The Wives wrapped up. He was quoted saying, “The shoot of the film has been wrapped up and I can’t wait to see the audience reaction. The film has come out well and will start the post production soon.”
When questioned about Fatima Sana Shaikh being a part of the film, the filmmaker revealed, “The reports around her casting were all untrue. She never signed the film or never roped in to play one of the wives in the film.”

Produced by Bhandarkar Entertainment and PJ Motion Pictures, The Wives is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar. It stars an ensemble cast, including Mouni Roy, Regena Cassandrra, Saurabh Sachdeva, Sonali Kulkarni, Rahul Bhat, Arjan Bajwa and Ilaha Dhillon. The makers are planning a theatrical release in early 2026.
