Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri and starring Emraan Hashmi, has achieved cult status despite its poor box-office performance. Ranbir Kapoor has publicly praised the film, even calling it Mohit’s best work—a sentiment the director finds quite rare. Although the film flopped upon its 2008 release, it gradually gained a dedicated following and is now set to receive a sequel. In a recent interview, Mohit shared that Ranbir Kapoor had appreciated Awarapan when it first came out. The filmmaker also addressed rumours about a potential collaboration with Ranbir.
Mohit Suri Denies Rumours Of Working With Ranbir Kapoor
While speaking to Variety India, Mohit denied reports of working with Ranbir on a project. However, he expressed his strong desire to collaborate with the actor in the future. Mohit mentioned that Ranbir has been a fan of his work from the start. “Ranbir Kapoor is not in my next film,” Mohit clarified.
“I genuinely want to work with him, and I hope he feels the same. I met him to discuss a project, and I intend to work together. There have been rumours that we’re already making a film, but that’s not true. Ranbir and I know each other well—he’s been following my career since the beginning. He’s one of the few stars who appreciates ‘Awarapan,’ even though it was a flop, and he often tells me it’s one of my best films.”
Mohit further explained that most actors tend to praise his highest-grossing films as his best work, but Ranbir has a different perspective, often citing his flop ‘Awarapan’ as a favourite. Known for films like Aashiqui 2, Malang, Awarapan, and Ek Villain, Mohit believes that Ranbir possesses the “depth and layered nuances” that his movies require. He clarified, “But no, there is no Ranbir Kapoor in my upcoming projects. I wish there was.”
RK’s Projects
As for Ranbir, he was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. His upcoming slate includes Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Parts 1 and 2, Vanga’s Animal Park, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War.
