Nawazuddin Siddiqui Questions Why Actors Need To Come Out Of Their Characters

Nawazuddin Siddiqui offers a deeply introspective look into his relationship with his characters. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble exclusively while promoting his project Raat Akeli Hai, he reveals why he prefers staying immersed in a character’s universe rather than stepping out of it. For him, the boundary between real life and the film world often blurs. Scroll down to read what she said and watch the full interview.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui On Coming Out Of His Characters

When asked how he comes out of his characters, especially after it gets heavy, Nawazuddin Siddiqui responded, “Kyun bahar aana chahiye jab mujhe mauka mil raha hai? Opportunity mil rahi hai toh kyun bahar aao, jab tak shooting chal rahi hai. Honestly, agar aap ussi world mein rahe toh kitna accha lagta hai. Bahar ka kaunsa aisa world hai jismein aapko aana zaroori hai? Ya aisa kya naya mil jaayega bahar aane se? Agar mujhe teen mahine ka time mil raha hai jitna play karne ka, toh mujhe khushi hoti hai ki yeh time dobara nahi aayega. Aur rehna toh reh sakte ho na—agar afford kar sakte ho toh kyu na raho? Real life mein koi aise sukhchaab ke par thodi lage hue hain joh aapke bina kaam nahi chalega.”

Continuing, the actor said, “Kabhi-kabhi toh mujhe real life se zyada yeh fantasy world real lagta hai. Unreal kya hai? Mujhe film wala world kabhi-kabhi real lagne lagta hai itne time se karne ke baad. Mera toh blur ho jaata hai maamla. Yeh zyada real lagta hai kyunki real life mein humne itne naqaab pehen rakhe hain ki pata hi nahi chalta kaun sachcha hai, kaun jhootha. Pata karna padta hai ki bhai kaun sachcha hai. Khud hi itne jhoothe ho gaye hain hum. Sabke chehron par naqaab dekhne padte hain, kaunsa real banda hai. Toh better hai ki film pe zyada vishwas kiya jaye bhaiya, yeh world bahut correct hai.”

How Nawazuddin Picks His Projects

When asked how he picks projects for himself and what he is looking forward to, Nawazuddin said, “See, ek interest hota hai, you know. Theatre ke time se hi hamari habit thi ki humne har tarah ke plays kiye hain. I think tabhi se ek mentality ho jaati hai ki jab aap films karoge toh alag-alag tareh ke kirdaar karne mein maza aayega. Aur kirdaar ke liye hi hum jeete hain. Alag-alag roles milne chahiye. Agar ek hi type ke roles milte rahe, toh shayad banda chhod-chhad ke kuch aur karna shuru kar de. Yeh field bhi chhod de. I think hum log isi liye hain ki humein naye-naye kirdaar milte rahe. Bhale fail ho jao, lekin koshish yahi rehti hai ki naye characters try karein.”

The Thamma actor concluded, “Humein pata hai ki aapke andar pura brahmand hai—hazaar log aapke andar hi rehte hain. Agar mauka mil raha hai film ke through, theatre ke through, plays ke through, toh usse tap karne mein maza aayega na? Let’s see, find out karo ki kya-kya cheezein aapke andar chhupi hui hain. Actor ka maza hi yeh hai. Kisi doosre insaan ko yeh mauka nahi milta, lekin actors, directors, writers ko yeh opportunity milti hai ki hazaaron insaanon se waqif ho jaate hain—jo sab aapke andar hi hain. Unko bahar nikaal ke le aate ho aap. Toh yeh ek khoobsurat opportunity hai jo actors ko milti hai. Aur agar woh opportunity mil rahi hai toh uska fayda kyun na uthayein?”

The crime-thriller film Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders will be released globally on Netflix on December 19, 2025. It is a sequel to the 2020 film Raat Akeli Hai. It was directed by Honey Trehan.
