Ever since Prada unveiled their ‘Toe Ring Sandals’ at their Men’s Spring/Summer 2026 fashion show in Milan, the luxury brand has been under scrutiny for allegedly copied the traditional Kolhapuri chappal design. Since the show – which took place on June 22, several stars and netizens have highlighted the brand’s sandals striking similarity to traditional Kolhapuris. In fact, Kareena Kapoor Khan even slammed the brand on social media. Now, days later, actress Neena Gupta has also called out Prada.
Neena Gupta Calls Out Prada Amid Ongoing Kolhapuri Chappal Controversy
Earlier today, Neena Gupta took to her Instagram handle and made an indirect jibe at Prada. The ‘Metro… In Dino’ actress shared a video on her social media handle wherein she was seen showcasing a handmade pair of Kolhapuri chappals – a gift from the late actor Laxmikant Berde.
Explaining how she came to own that pair of Kolhapuris, the 66-year-old actress says, “So, these Kolhapur slippers are making the headlines these days. Once I did something with Laxmikant Berde. I don’t remember what it was. So, I asked him, ‘Can you get me these slippers from Kolhapur?’ He said, ‘Yes’. So, he got them for me.”
She further adds, “These are the most beautiful slippers I have ever had. Most beautiful and handmade. I love them. Thank you, Laxmikant. You are not there anymore, but I love you.” Sharing the video, the veteran actress wrote, “Real toh real hota hai (Real is real).”
Pradha’s Kolhapuri Chappal Controversy
A day ago, Kareena Kapoor Khan also took to her social media and called out Prada by uploading an image on her Instagram Stories. Featuring her wearing an exquisite pair of Kolhapuris, she wrote, “Sorry, not Prada… but my OG Kolhapuri.”
Following the debut of Prada’s ‘Toe Ring Sandals,’ a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Bombay High Court. The petition ordered Prada to compensate the artisans who make Kolhapuri chappals, stating that the luxury label had copied the traditional designs without giving them any recognition. At the time of their launch, Prada described the sandals as “inspired by traditional Indian handcrafted footwear with a centuries-old heritage.”
