Earlier today, the makers of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana – starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, unveiled the film’s first glimpse. The 3-minute-long video – which introduces the world to the film and the cast, has taken social media by story, making sure the hype for the Diwali 2026 release will only increase in the months to come.
Mounted as one of the most-anticipated Bollywood films to release in the next couple of years, the film has been made on a humongous budget, that – as per reports, has made it the most expensive film ever made in India.
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Is India’s Most Expensive Film?
As per a 2024 Bollywood Hungama report, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has a massive budget of $100 million (around Rs 835 crore) – the highest ever in Indian cinema history. This massive budget for the first part surpasses the amount spent on Ayan Mukerji’s VFX-heavy Brahmastra: Part One – the most expensive Bollywood film made to date, with a reported budget of Rs 375 crore. In fact, the budget of the Ranbir Kapoor-Yash starrer even exceeds the amount spent on pan India films like Kalki 2898 AD (Rs 600 crore), RRR (Rs 550 crore) and Adipurush (Rs 550 crore). This make the upcoming epic India’s most expensive film.
About The Film
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and 8-time Oscar winning VFX studio DNEG in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is being filmed for IMAX. As per reports, the film also stars Vivek Oberoi, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Kunal Kapoor, Arun Govil, Sheeba Chadha, and Indira Krishnan in supporting roles.
The film – set 5,000 years ago and revered by 2.5 billion people, is a two-part live-action cinematic universe being reimagined on the scale of the biggest tentpoles produced to date. Part 1 will release worldwide in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
