Padmavati

The controversy going around Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ has taken a political turn now. Politicians are sharing their thoughts on the same. Union Minister Uma Bharti took to her Twitter handle to condemn the threats sent to Deepika Padukone. She was of an opinion that we need to respect women and such threats to actors/actresses are unjustified.

Further to this, we have Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath stating that the film should be postponed in order to ensure a smooth release for the same. The government there feels that they will not be able to give a security cover to the film on the stated release date as the forces would be deployed in counting votes of local bodies polls taking place during that period. Plus, Muslim festival Barawafat will also take place during the same time, as per a report in DNA.

The Principal Secretary Home, Arvind Kumar, has written a letter to I&B Minister asking for a postponement in the release date of the film. “A few organisations have already threatened to oppose the release of the film which may vitiate the law and order situation in the state,” he has stated.

He has requested I&B Ministry, to inform Censor Board about these issues before they grant certification to the film. “Movies based on facts with positive script motivate and influence the society to move on the right path. But movies with distorted historical facts, exaggeration, false and fictional scripts create vicious atmosphere in the nation and society. It develops social hatred and generate serious challenges for law and order,” he said.

Further adding, “Following threat of widespread violent protest and in view of our prior commitments due to counting of votes and Barawafat, it is not in the interest of public interest to release the film on December 1 as it would be very difficult for the state to maintain law and order and establish peace.” (Also Read: Padmavati: Union Minister Uma Bharti calls attack on Deepika Padukone immoral)
