Mirzapur: The Film, the highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of the hit web series Mirzapur, is making headlines with a major casting update. Vikrant Massey, who played the fan-favourite character Bablu Pandit in Season 1, will not be returning for the film.
Jitendra Kumar Replaces Vikrant Massey
According to PeepingMoon.com, actor Jitendra Kumar will take over the role of Vikrant Massey, who offered the role but chose not to return. He was reportedly unhappy with how his character was killed off in the first season of the web series. Although he had hoped for a longer storyline, Bablu’s early exit left him disappointed. He also didn’t want to risk the same thing happening again in the film. Massey and the producers are said to have parted ways on good terms.
Producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani respected his decision and looked for someone who could bring Bablu’s smart and calm nature to life. They chose Jitendra Kumar, known for his roles in Kota Factory and Panchayat. Jitendra is said to have been paid a big fee for this role in the crime drama.
The main cast from the Mirzapur series, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee, and Shweta Tripathi, will all return. New actors like Ravi Kishan and Mohit Malik have also joined the cast. Filming started recently at Film City, with more actors joining the shoot over the coming weeks.
Mirzapur: The Film is being produced by Excel Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios. It is one of the first Indian web series to be turned into a full movie. Gurmmeet Singh is directing the film, and Puneet Krishna is the creator. The film is expected to finish shooting by the end of December and will be released in theatres in 2026.
