Pankaj Tripathi, Priyadarshan Reunite After 15 Years For Comedy Caper

Priyadarshan is gearing up to reunite with Pankaj Tripathi after 15 years for an all-out comedy. The yet-untitled project, which will feature Tripathi in a lovable comic role, is expected to go on floors from May 2026. When Paresh Rawal had briefly exited Hera Pheri 3, many on the internet felt that Pankaj Tripathi would be a perfect fit for the role. While Rawal has now returned to Hera Pheri 3, it seems the internet was onto something. Priyadarshan is teaming up with Tripathi once again for another film, marking their reunion after Aakrosh (2010), where Tripathi played a hitman.

Priyadarshan-Pankaj Tripathi Reunite After 15 Years

“It’s been over 15 years,” exclaimed the National Award-winning filmmaker while speaking to Mid-day. In his upcoming untitled project, Tripathi will portray a lovable, comic character. Priyadarshan mentioned that he recently finished shooting Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, and shared, “It will be an all-out comedy like Hungama [2003] or Hera Pheri [2000], with Pankaj as the pivotal character. He is one of the finest actors we have today, and it will be a pleasure working with him again. I am currently writing the story, and once that is finalised, I will approach the other two actors.”

Priyadarshan has two films scheduled for release in 2026. Bhooth Bangla is a supernatural thriller starring Akshay Kumar, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi, and the action thriller Haiwaan. If everything proceeds smoothly, he plans to start shooting the comedy by summer. “I will begin shooting for Pankaj’s movie from May, after these two films are released. It’s refreshing to write a comedy after so many years. Especially since I recently helmed an action movie and a psychological thriller,” he shared.

Priyadarshan On Taking A Break

When asked if he was planning to take a short break after finishing Haiwaan, the director chuckled and admitted, “You know I cannot stay idle for long. I had this story in mind, and I narrated it to Pankaj, who liked it. So, I started writing it.”

Additionally, a sequel to Priyadarshan’s hit comedy Bhagam Bhag (2006) is in development. While there are rumours that Akshay Kumar and Akshaye Khanna might star in Bhagam Bhag 2, Priyadarshan clarified, “I am not a part of it. My next movie, which will be shot in 2026, is the Pankaj Tripathi-starrer.” Reports also suggest that Raaj Shaandilyaa, known for Dream Girl 2 (2023), will direct the sequel.
