Phule Pratik Gandhi Patralekhaa

Ananth Mahadevan’s directorial film Phule – starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa in lead roles, has been making the headlines owing to multiple controversies. The film – which is based on the story of social reformers Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule who fought against caste and gender injustice in the 19th century, has now been postponed.

Phule Postponed Owing To Multiple Controversies

For the unversed, the Brahmin Federation President, Anand Dave watched the trailer of Phule and have claimed that the Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa promotes casteism. Aside from casteism claims, Dave has also demanded that the contribution of the ‘black Brahmin’ community in aiding the Phules should be acknowledged. Amid the controversy, former state minister Chhagan Bhujbal met director Ananth Mahadevan and the producers to address the controversy.

Aside from Dave’s statements, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has asked the makers to incorporate multiple changes to the film. This includes the removal of a voiceover referencing the caste system and the exclusion of terms like Mahar, Mang, Peshwai, and the Manus system of caste. Apart from this, they have altered certain dialogues to ensure its appropriate for the audience.

Owing to these reason, the film – which was to be released in theatres on April 11, will now hit screens two weeks later, on April 25.
