Pulkit Samrat & Varun Sharma Create New Movie Genre With Rahu Ketu
Known as shadow planets in Hindu mythology, Rahu and Ketu have deep roots in ancient stories and Vedic astrology. For those who don’t know, they symbolize eclipses and karmic influences and are said to influence one’s destiny, desires, and spiritual lessons. Many believe that understanding their story and astrological impact helps seekers navigate life’s challenges while staying grounded and spiritual.
With the upcoming Vipul Vig directorial we not only see a blend of comedy, astrology, and folklore but we also see two of the most feared grahas being reimagines as confused modern-day men who are effected and dealing with cosmic chaos. And how do we know that? The makers have clearly shown it in the very first clip of he promo clip as well as via the dialogue of a coq giving spoilt milk if either of them touch her.
A Little History About Rahu Ketu
In Hindu tales, Rahu and Ketu began as a single mighty Asura named Svarbhanu. However, during the cosmic event of Samudra-Manthan or the churning of the ocean – when the 14 Ratnas emerged from the ocean along with the with Amrita or nectar, the duo offended the gods. As per the texts, this Amrit had immortalizing qualities – something the god and demons involved in the churning sought. Mohini – the female form of Vishnu, stated she would divide the amrita among both sides, but in order to keep the boon away from the evil Asuras, she gave the nectar only to the Devas. Svarbhanu saw this and sat amongst the gods, taking the form of a Deva to consume the amrit.
However, Surya and Chandra saw through his facades and snitched to Mohini, who with the Chakra of Vishnu, severed the body of Rahu into two. Since the Amrita was already consumed by Rahu – even after being cut in two halves, he could not die. A serpent head was given to the lower body of Rahu and a serpent tail was attached to his torso, giving birth to the two unique beings- Rahu and Ketu.
As per the same texts, Rahu – the part with the human torso, embodies insatiable desire and deception. On the other hand, Ketu – the part with the serpent head, symbolizes spiritual detachment and enlightenment.
