Trouble seems to be mounting for actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra. The couple has once again found themselves under the scanner of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in connection with a high-value cheating case worth Rs 60.48 crore. To ensure they do not leave the country, a Look Out Circular (LOC) has also been issued against them.
Raj Kundra To Appear Before EOW On September 15
Raj Kundra was originally asked to appear before investigators on September 10 but requested more time. The EOW has now directed him to appear on September 15. A senior EOW official confirmed that the auditor of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has also been summoned for questioning in the matter.
According to reports, both Shetty and Kundra had been called for questioning three times during the preliminary inquiry. However, they cited their stay in London and sent their attorney instead. Officials later said the information provided by the lawyer was incomplete, leading to the registration of a formal FIR.
The FIR, lodged at Juhu Police Station, was based on a complaint by Deepak Kothari (60), Director of Lotus Capital Financial Services. Kothari alleged that between 2015 and 2023, he invested Rs 60.48 crore in Best Deal TV Pvt. Ltd., a company promoted by Shetty and Kundra, for business expansion. However, he claims the money was siphoned off and diverted for personal use.
Kothari said he was introduced to Raj Kundra through a mutual acquaintance. At that time, Shilpa Shetty and Kundra jointly held nearly 88% of the company’s shares. They allegedly assured him of monthly returns along with repayment of the principal. Shetty later resigned from the firm in 2016. The EOW has registered the case under IPC Sections 403, 406, and 34, and further investigation is underway.
