Rajinikanth Wanted To Marry Sridevi

Sridevi and Rajinikanth are remembered as one of Indian cinema’s most beloved pairs. While their on-screen chemistry in films like ChaalBaaz was magical, few know about the emotional story behind their strong connection.

Rajinikanth, Sridevi’s Unspoken Love Story

In the early days of their careers, Rajinikanth is said to have developed feelings for Sridevi. The two shared the screen in more than a dozen films across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, and their bond was clear to fans. But behind the scenes, there was a love story that never took shape.

According to director K. Balachander, who launched both actors, Rajinikanth once planned to confess his love at Sridevi’s housewarming party. However, when he arrived, a sudden power cut left the house in darkness. Rajinikanth, being very superstitious, saw this as a bad sign and quietly left without saying anything. He never brought up his feelings again. Years later, Sridevi married producer Boney Kapoor in 1996, and Rajinikanth married Latha.

Their journey began in 1976 on the sets of Moondru Mudichu, when Sridevi was just 13 years old. She played Rajinikanth’s stepmother in the film, which became a turning point for both. It was Sridevi’s first lead role and Rajinikanth’s breakthrough in Tamil cinema.

Off-screen, they shared a deep sense of respect and care. Rajinikanth was close to Sridevi’s mother, and their families remained friendly over the years. When Rajinikanth fell seriously ill during the filming of Rana, Sridevi reportedly fasted and prayed for his recovery for seven days.

Though their love remained unspoken, the affection and friendship between them lasted a lifetime, a quiet story of emotions never expressed but always felt.
