Rajpal Yadav Completes 50 Films With Priyadarshan, David Dhawan And Ram Gopal Varma

Farah Khan and Rajpal Yadav reminisced about their first collaboration in 1999’s Mast. During their chat, Yadav shared how Ram Gopal Varma played a key role in preventing him from being typecast. He also mentioned that he has reached a significant milestone in his career, completing a “half-century” of collaborations with filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma, David Dhawan, and Priyadarshan.

Rajpal Yadav On Working On His 100th Film

Rajpal appeared on Farah Khan’s YouTube vlog, where they discussed films over a plate of mixed vegetable rice. Farah revealed that Rajpal is currently working on a film titled 100 with her brother Sajid Khan. Rajpal responded, “Many times, our shoots almost happened together but didn’t, yet we’ve been friends for so many years. Your show went to Birmingham in 1997–98… my association with Sajid and Suresh Menon goes back to then.”

Farah then recalled that their first project together was the 1999 film Mast, which marked Aftab Shivdasani’s debut. “Our first song was in Ram Gopal Varma’s Mast. Rajpal played a waiter, and he used to get scolded the most,” she said. Rajpal chuckled, adding, “Getting scolded by Farah Khan is auspicious — people become stars after it. I did my first song with you, and I never even thought I’d do songs. Those were truly amazing times.”

Farah-Rajpal On Working In Salman Khan’s Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya

Farah also mentioned that they next worked together in the Salman Khan-starrer Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. Rajpal recalled, “And in that film too, she made me dance with crutches on.” When asked if he agrees that Ram Gopal Varma is his discoverer, Rajpal confidently replied, “100 per cent.” Farah chimed in, “Ramu has discovered some gems.”

Rajpal then reflected, “Ramu brought me out of the ‘villain jungle’… Just think, on one side, Hrithik was winning the Best Actor award for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, and Rakesh Roshan was getting Best Director, while I was receiving the Best Negative Character award.” He added emotionally, “Since then, the industry has given me so much that even if I had 500 lives, it wouldn’t be enough to repay it. With every new release, I feel grateful.”

Farah asked if he had done 100 films with Priyadarshan. Rajpal concluded, “Now, I’ve completed a half-century with these three — Ram Gopal Varma, David Dhawan, and Priyadarshan.”

Rajpal will be seen in Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla.
