Ram Gopal Varma Calls Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar 2 An 'Asteroid Strike'

Ram Gopal Varma has expressed his high expectations for Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film Dhurandhar 2, claiming it could be a game-changer for Indian cinema. He described the film as an “asteroid strike” that might bring an end to the dominance of the pan-India south films movement. Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s blockbuster Dhurandhar, is set to release in theatres on March 19.

Ram Gopal Varma Calls Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 An ‘Asteroid Strike’

Sharing his thoughts on his X account on Tuesday, Ram Gopal Varma wrote, “Dhurandhar 2 has a real chance of completely and permanently obliterating the pan-India south films movement by setting a new benchmark with ultra-realistic filmmaking, authentic character development, and engaging storytelling that truly stimulates the audience’s mind while delivering raw, visceral impact. Once viewers experience this new standard, every other film in the current masala style could become instantly vulnerable.”

He further added, “Big-budget masala projects already in production or post-production will find it tough to compete with these new standards. Producers who rely entirely on the old formula of ‘mass + VFX + scale + gravity-defying stunts’ may face empty theatres and potentially career-ending losses due to rising costs and shifting audience preferences towards international standards. Directors who believe that mass appeal, VFX, and stunts guarantee hits will need to rethink and study the audience that Dhurandhar attracts.”

About Dhurandhar 2

Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a sequel to the 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the spy thriller will delve into the backstory of Ranveer’s character, Hamza, depicting him completing his mission by taking over a criminal syndicate in Pakistan, culminating in an intense showdown with Arjun Rampal’s character. Dhurandhar-Toxic Box Office Clash

The movie will face competition at the box office from Yash’s pan-India release, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups. Written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas, and directed by Mohandas, Toxic features Yash in the lead alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria. This marks Yash’s first film since the KGF franchise. Produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, both films are scheduled to release on March 19.
