Indian film producer and ‘Ramayan’ creator Ramanand Sagar’s son, Prem Sagar, passed away at the age of 84. His demise drew heartfelt tributes from actors Arun Govil and Sunil Lahiri. The legendary filmmaker, producer, and visionary behind Ramayan died on Sunday. His funeral is scheduled to take place at Pawan Hans cremation ground in Mumbai.

Arun Govi, Sunil Lahiri Mourn Prem Sagar’s Death

Reports indicate that Prem Sagar, the son of Ramanand Sagar, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai before his passing. Actor Arun Govil, known for playing Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan (1987). He shared his grief on X, “The news of the demise of Prem Sagar Ji, the son of the late Shri Ramanand Sagar Ji, who brought the ideals, principles, and teachings of Lord Shri Ram to every individual through electronic media by giving the form of the Ramayana TV serial, is extremely heartbreaking. I pray to Lord Shri Ram that the departed soul be granted a place at His divine feet and that the bereaved family members be bestowed with the strength to endure this profound sorrow. Om Shanti.”

Sunil Lahiri, who portrayed Laxman in the same television series, also expressed his condolences on X, saying, “Absolutely shocking news. We lost Prem Sagar Ji, son of Ramanand Sagar ji of ‘Ramayan’ Om Shanti.”

Prem Sagar was trained at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, as part of the 1968 batch. Throughout his career, he contributed to numerous projects as a still photographer and cinematographer under the Sagar Arts banner, continuing his father’s legacy in the industry.
