While fans get ready to meet a see Ranbir as Lord Rama, Arun Govil – who is set to play King Dashrath in the Nitesh Tiwari directorial, opens up about the character being compared to its previous adaptation.

Arun Govil On Comparisons Between Ramanand Sagar Show & Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana
During a recent interview with PTI, Arun Govil opened up about the possibility of Nitesh Tiwary’s Ramayana being compared to already released projects. The ‘Ramayana’ actor said, “Comparisons are always made when a standard is set, and no one should feel bad that I’m being compared. I believe that in order to play the role of God, you should look like that. The look is very important. When people see you, they should see God in you, and think, ‘God can be like that’.”
The new Ramayana film will be releasing nearly three years after the ill-fated Adipurush. Directed by Om Raut, that adaptation of the Indian epic starred Prabhas as Lord Ram, Saif Ali Khan as Ravana, and Kriti Sanon as Sita. The film was slammed by critics, and was considered a massive box office failure. Talking about comparisons between the Prabhas and Ranbir starrer, Arun Govil said such a comparison shouldn’t be done. He stated, “There is a lot of difference between Ramayana and Adipurush.”

Ramayana is one of the biggest and most-awaited films of 2026. Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and DNEG, in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the mythological epic will star Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Yash as Raavan. The film will also feature Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. As per reports, the upcoming epic will also feature Amitabh Bachchan, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Sheeba Chaddha, Indira Krishnan and Shobana in pivotal parts.
With its grand scale and mega-star cast, the film promises to present India’s biggest and most divine mythological epic in the most enthralling way, creating a cinematic wonder like never before. The film’s music is composed by world-renowned German composer, Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.
The film is a two-part live-action saga set 5000 years ago and rooted in one of Indian mythology’s most enduring epics. The first part is slated to release worldwide in IMAX during Diwali 2026, with part two following in Diwali 2027.
